llechwedd glamping with Lauren

Hey guys! @walkingwithlauren here, your hiking social bestie, you can call me Lauren though as that is a mouthful! I’m a keen hobby outdoorist and literally any spare time of mine you’ll find me discovering the next best place to visit here in Wales!

Next on my list of places to visit was Blaenau Ffestiniog and the surrounding areas within this part of Snowdonia National Park so when Plas Weunydd invited me to check out their glamping tents right here in Blaenau Ffestiniog it was a no-brainer!

We travelled by car from South Wales, it took us 3 hours but that drive up the A470 to North Wales will always be one of my favourites as I know I’m entering into that beautiful mountain-dominated territory. The landscapes alone before even arriving will leave you in awe and have you planning future mountain adventures to tackle before you even get to your final destination.

After arriving at our accommodation on a Friday afternoon we were kindly greeted by a member of the team who gave us a lift up to the glamping tents. To our surprise the views were outstanding, the tents towered over what used to be regarded as part of the slate mining capital of the world!

From the point we were left at our tent our jam-packed weekend began. We watched a gorgeous sunset from the decking of the tent, cwtched up on the cutest of decking chairs with the warmest of blankets they provided in the tent with a hot chocolate, a perfect start if I do say so myself!

As you can imagine, our itinerary was full of hiking adventures from mountain tops to coastal paths. Therefore, we made sure we packed our hiking gear, more specifically with it being March we made sure this was our warmer gear as North Wales weather is very unpredictable so it’s best to be prepared!

Stwlan Dam

The best part of our stay was really only being a stone’s throw away from so many beautiful spots in the North such as Stwlan Dam which is nestled in The Moelwyn mountain range. This walk really offers easy terrain and punchy mountain views as you can follow the road up to the Dam from Cwmorthin car park. For those who like to go on coastal path adventures, another highlight for us was only an hour’s drive away. Morfa Nefyn is part of the coastal path and really offers an escape to tranquillity. Plus it’s the perfect spot to go out on your paddleboard in the summer with crystal clear waters!

After long days outdoors, returning to the tent and having plenty of facilities was perfect. So if you like to cook your meals when going away, the glamping tents offer the cooking facilities needed to create that carb-filling meal after a big day out exploring Snowdonia.

Based on my own experience, Plas Weunydd really is that escape from reality that you need and a fab way to connect with being outside but with that extra added comfort! I would suggest if staying in these tents in the winter months to take those extra layers to stay toasty and warm but the log fire definitely does the job of that!

Hopefully this will provide you with some inspiration for your next trip to Blaenau Ffestiniog!

Thanks,

Lauren
