3-day Snowdonia itinerary for families
We’ve teamed up with Charlotte to give you a peek into her family’s weekend at Plas Weunydd. From settling in with little ones to uncovering adventures in Eryri (Snowdonia), she captures it all beautifully, and adds a few super helpful tips along the way.
🏔️ A Family Weekend at Plas Weunydd: Adventure, Comfort & Welsh Charm
If you’re craving a weekend that ticks all the boxes, fun for the kids, a bit of breathing space for you, and somewhere genuinely beautiful, Plas Weunydd in Snowdonia might just be your new favourite spot. It’s got zip lines, slate caverns, waterfalls, and wood-fired pizza. Need I say more?
Here’s how we spent a weekend there, with little legs in tow and snacks always at the ready.
Day 1: Settle In & Soak It Up
After the drive in (cue snacks, singalongs, and at least twenty-seven “are we nearly there yet?”), you’ll arrive at Plas Weunydd, a boutique hotel with a laid-back vibe and stunning views of the slate landscape.Check-in is smooth, the rooms are spacious, and yes, they welcome muddy boots and waggy tails.
Let the kids stretch their legs around the grounds while you sneak in a moment to breathe in that mountain air.
Dinner at the hotel is hearty and local, the Snowdonia cheese fondue is incredible
🛏 If you can, book a room overlooking the old quarries. It’s like sleeping in a postcard.
Day 2: Zip World & Underground Adventures
This is the day the kids will talk about for weeks.Morning at Zip World Llechwedd: Underground golf and bouncing below in the slate caverns.
Lunch: Grab something from the on-site café or pack a picnic to enjoy with mountain views.
Afternoon: Head underground for the Deep Mine Tour. It’s fascinating, a little eerie (in a good way), and surprisingly moving. A proper glimpse into Wales’ industrial past.
Evening: Back at the hotel, wind down with marshmallows and hot chocolate (or something stronger) by the log burner.
🎒 Top tip: bring layers. It gets chilly underground, and no one likes a cold toddler.
Day 3: Waterfalls, Woodland & Pizza in Betws-y-Coed
Before heading home, take a detour to Betws-y-Coed. It’s only a short drive and feels like stepping into a storybook.
Start with Swallow Falls, then pop over to Conwy Falls, both are stunning and easy to access, even with little ones.
Let the kids splash around near Pont-y-Pair Bridge or wander the woodland paths. It’s peaceful, playful, and perfect for a slow morning.
Lunch at Hangin’ Pizzeria is a must. Wood-fired, delicious, and relaxed. The Nutella pizza is a crowd-pleaser if you’re feeling indulgent.
Before heading back, explore the village shops or hop on the miniature railway at the Conwy Valley Railway Museum.
🍕 Hangin’ gets busy, book ahead or be early to avoid hangry little humans.
Why We’d Go Back
Plas Weunydd isn’t just a place to stay; it’s a base for proper family adventures. You’ve got thrills, history, waterfalls, and cosy evenings all wrapped into one weekend. And the best part? It’s all doable without needing a military-level itinerary.
